Missionaries to Xai Xai, Mozambique, Africa

On August 7, 2006 we officcially became Missionaries through World Hope International to Xai Xai, Mozambique, Africa.

The final quarter of 2007 is an exciting time to be part of the Cattle Multiplication Project in Mozambique.  Each month of this quarter a village has ‘paid forward’ their cattle to the next family on the list, thus beginning the second generation of cows in the cattle multiplication program.  These three villages Nalaze, Bella Vista, and Pussa were the pilot projects who received either 3 or 4 heifers and a bull each.  After four years time, the recipients were required to pay forward the same number of cows which they received.  After the fifth year, World Hope receives one cow each from these original families.  The villagers will then follow this pattern for future generations.  Once the fifth year is complete, the villagers are then allowed to train these cattle to work the fields.  Following this pattern in the remaining 27 villages, World Hope will receive 60 cows back to be used in other ‘new’ villages by 2010.  During this quarter, three more villages also received cattle.

During the first week of December villagers who are the designated vet techs for the group met for week long vet training at the Wesleyan Bible School.  Seventeen villager vet techs were presented.  Brett was fortunate to have a translator this Portuguese Vet training course.arol is helping with minimal administrative work for World Hope, continuing to home school the children, and connecting with local Mozambican women who are teaching her language and cooking.  Beginning next year, she will be involved in Community Orphan Trust projects for World Hope and teaching a preschool class at the Wesleyan Bible School in Xai-Xai.

The family receives Portuguese lessons three times a week for 1½ hrs.  Learning the language is slow and steady.  Being in the villages Brett is learning Changane as well.  Most church services in this area are preached in Changane, so all the Greenland’s are learning to sing Changane hymns.

While Mozambique holds challenges for all the Greenland’s, the joy of the peace of God assures them that they are in the right place.
